Every other year the Section awards the Ernst-Georg-Pringsheim Award for an outstanding PhD thesis. Sometimes the prize is devided (see German Geschäftsordnung, pdf-file, 16 KB). The award is named after the famous phycologist Ernst Georg Pringsheim (1881-1970) who was a pioneer in the cultivation of algae.
